The Viruses are a species in the Mario series, particularly the Dr. Mario subseries.

Appearances

Dr. Mario series

In Dr. Mario, Dr. Mario must use his Megavitamins to stop the spread of the Viruses. The three types of Viruses are Fever (Red), Chill, (Blue) and Flu (Yellow). To destroy the viruses, Mario must line up a virus with two like colored segments of Megavitamins, two like colored Viruses and a Mega Vitamin or some combination of the above. After Dr. Mario eliminates all Viruses in a jar, he would move onto the next jar.

Mario & Luigi Series

Viruses also appear in Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga where they appear in Woohoo Hooniversity. When encountered, several of them will attack the Bros. To defeat them, Mario or Luigi must strike them to get them to change colors. When two or more are the same color, they are defeated. They also appear in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and the aforementioned game's remake, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.

Super Smash Bros. series

In Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube, a trophy of all three viruses was present that could be obtained randomly. The following is the trophy description:

"These contagious viruses make life difficult for Dr. Mario. They infect everything they come into contact with, and the good doctor must attempt to neutralize them with his trusty megavitamins. Dr. Mario can stop these pesky germs by lining up the megavitamin capsules of the same color with the nasty microorganism."

Other games

Different Viruses appear in Dr. Wario, a mini game in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames$!.

The Driver Virus in Mario Kart Arcade GP looks like Chill with swirly eyes. The Driver Virus slows down opposing drivers.

They also make an appearance as a unique Tetris inspired game, Germ Buster in Brain Age 2 More Training in Minutes a Day (Germ Buster also appeared in Dr. Mario Online Rx).

It also appears in a relaxing exercise in Brain Age Express: Math and Brain Age Express: Arts and Letters. It is very similar to Dr. Mario.
