Wayne Gretzky Hockey is a sports game (specifically ice hockey) for the Nintendo Entertainment System released in 1991. It was the first video game on a Nintendo gaming console to be endorsed by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. He appeared on it's box art as well as carried his name in the game's title. The game was only released in North America. While the Nintendo version of the game wasn't published until 1991, it appeared on other gaming consoles in 1988.

Gameplay

The game was designed so that 1 player could play against the computer, or 2 players could play simultaneously against each other. A third game mode allows the 2 players to play on the same team against the computer. The length of the periods and the speed of the gameplay can be adjusted in the main menu screens. Different game types are also available: Practice (no penalties), Normal (normal rules) and Playoffs (no ties, the game continues into overtime until someone scores a goal).

The game is played entirely in an overhead, or "bird's-eye-view", of the ice rink.

As in the real-world sport of hockey, the object is to score more goals than the opposing team.

Teams

The teams in the game are represented by cities, for example: Chicago and Boston.
