Wendell is a blue walrus from the Animal Crossing series. He is a traveling wallpaper/design artist. He gives the player a free wallpaper/design if given fruit, turnips, or fish.
Animal Crossing series
Wendell will come randomly any day of the week at any time of day in the original Animal Crossing (and Animal Forest). The player can find out if he will be coming to their town soon by asking Officer Copper if there are any going-ons. When he arrives at the player's town town and they talk to him, he'll tell him or her he's hungry and asks for food. He will eat fish, fruit, or turnips. On weekends, he will give the player a free wallpaper for giving him something to eat. On weekdays, he will sell a wallpaper to the player. Some of his wallpapers can't find anywhere else.
Wendell reappeared in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Nintendo DS and Wii, respectively. Instead of giving out wallpapers, Wendell now gives out designs. He now appears from 6:00 am to midnight on a random weekday. He will give the player a design if he or she gives him something to eat. If the player gives him fruit, excluding coconuts, he will give him or her a design they have already obtained. If given fish, he will give the player a design only obtainable from him.
Super Smash Bros. series
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii, Wendell appeared as one of the hundreds of available stickers. The artwork was from Animal Crossing: Wild World. A trophy of him was also provided. The following are Wendell's trophy descriptions.
- A famous painter who wanders about with a large rucksack on his back. When he arrives in town, he's so hungry he can barely stand. While you think it's probably a good idea to give him something to eat, it's hard to figure out what that should be. That being said, he looks really hungry and would likely devour anything given to him.
- Wendell is a wandering artist with a healthy appetite. He may be a walrus, but his tastes extend well beyond fish! In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he only appears in dreams when the player uses the Dream Suite. He doesn't seem to be too hungry, but it is a dream -- he's probably happily eating in the waking world!
