A Whomp is an enemy in the Mario series. Their first appearance was in the game Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64, where they even had a course named after them. There only attack is to crash down on you when you are under them, once they do that, Mario was able to jump on his back to do a ground pound to defeat him. The leader of the species is Big Whomp, whom tried to defeat Mario on top of Whomp's Fortress. Since their debut, they have appeared as an enemy in many other Mario games, including New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and have the same traits however.
