In the Nintendo GameCube game he can be seen in town on random mornings between 12:00AM and 4:00AM. Wisp is invisible at first, but when he is close his voice can be heard and if the player follows the voice Wisp will eventually appear. The player is asked to help him catch five spirits before 4:00AM, so Wisp wont get in trouble with his master. The spirits can be caught with a net and when all five spirits are returned to Wisp he'll be so happy he will offer to paint the player's roof a different color, pull all the weeds in the their town, or just give them a gift.
Wisp reappears in Animal Crossing: City Folk. This time the player must find an empty lamp instead, and a new reward is added. Wisp now also offers to get rid of all cockroaches in the players house.
He was added to Animal Crossing: New Leaf in the Welcome Amiibo update in 2016. He can bring a character from an Animal Crossing amiibo to the campground for you to get their stuff or bring to your town.
