Wolfos are werewolf-like monsters that appear in The Legend of Zelda series. They are typically encountered near forests and often attack in packs of two or more. Wolfos possess enormous sickle-like claws on their forelimbs, so large that they must run on their knuckles in a similar fashion as apes and anteaters. Wolfos typically circle their prey, waiting for an opening to strike before rearing up on their back legs to slash. If the player times it right and dodges just as the Wolfos strikes, then it will lose its balance and temporarily leave itself open to an attack. There are two types of Wolfos, including grey and white types.

Grey Wolfos[]

Grey Wolfos are the smaller and more common of the two subspecies, typically found in temperate forest or grassland and are especially common after dark.

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link first encountered one when he entered the Sacred Forest Meadow for the first time. He had to kill it to open the gate into the Mad Scrub infested passages of the meadow. He later encountered them in the Forest Temple, Gerudo's Training Ground, and Inside Ganon's Castle.

In The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Grey Wolfos appear in Termina Field at night.

White Wolfos[]

Main article: White Wolfos

White Wolfos are the larger and rarer of the two subspecies, most often encountered in cold or snowy locations where their white fur blends into the snow.

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link first encountered a White Wolfos as the mini boss of the Ice Cavern. Later on, White Wolfos made an appearance in Gerudo's Training Ground.
