World of Goo is a WiiWare video game released on October 13, 2008 in North America and in Europe on December 19, 2008. It is heavily physics based and was developed by 2 former Electronic Arts employees who, together, are known as 2D Boy. A free demo version of the game was released in North America on November 16, 2009.

Gameplay

The goal of each stage is to get a certain amount of goo into the pipes, though the challenge is getting them there. To do so you'll have to create chains of goo which can be used to construct buildings, bridges and so forth in order to lead the goo to the pipe. Once the chain gets close to the pipe, it'll start to suck in air, thus causing goos following the chain to be sucked in. Goo that are connected to the structure will not be sucked in unless they can be dispatched (most of which can't). The goo that are brought into the pipe are later sent to a large area in which the goal is to create an increasingly large tower. The more goo you have the taller it can become. After you've created a sizable structure, then you can compare it to others via Nintendo Wifi Connection.

Reception

The game was highly received. IGN gave the game an outstanding 9.5/10, which to date is the highest rated WiiWare game on the site.

"World of Goo is an amazing WiiWare game that you simply must buy for this is exactly the type of software that needs both recognition and support. A three-man team has created a title that is not only significantly cheaper than most retail Wii games, but a hell of a lot better in every regard, from concept to execution. It's packed full of brilliant, challenging levels. It's gorgeous. It's got beautiful music. And it controls really well. So if you value any or all of these qualities, and hopefully you do, you should be delighted to know that Nintendo's downloadable service is about to rock your world, goo style." - Matt Casamassina, IGN

World of Goo was WiiWare World's first game that was rewarded with a perfect score. It has been given an equally outstanding reception from most critics, many who claim that it is the best title released on the downloadable system. Surprisingly given the fact that it was created by about 3 people.
