Yoshi's Island is part of Dinosaur Land, a collection of islands in the Mushroom Kingdom. In the center is a tall mountain with the Yellow Switch Palace on top. Its mainly featured in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its sequel, Yoshi's Island DS. It also appears as the first world in Super Mario World. Yoshis mainly make their home on this island. Yoshi's Island is ruled over by Iggy in the beginning of Super Mario World, though is soon defeated by the Mario Bros.

Yoshi's Island is also a stage featured in all three Super Smash Bros. games, though the design of each stage differs between each installment. In Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, Yoshi's Island resembled a stage from Yoshi's Story and even featured the Super Happy Tree in the background, among other references including the storybook visual direction. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Yoshi's Island stage better resembles a stage from Super Mario World and happens to be much bigger. In the background you'll see sprites ripped directly from the SNES video game. Super Smash Bros. Brawl's version arguably best represents the name of the stage - Yoshi's Island, as the stage is dramatically similar to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
