Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure(JP) is a puzzle/adventure video game for the Wii that is considered a sleeper hit/cult classic. The game was released in October 2007, and was developed and published by Capcom. The game stars Zack and Wiki on their adventure to find the missing parts of Barbaros' treasure.

Gameplay[]

The game takes on a cell-shaded appearance, similar to that of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the GameCube. It's shown in a third-person outlook where the player will control Zack, arguably the main protagonist of the game (with Wiki essentially being his side-kick). Zack will traverse the game's world in search of treasures that can be found by pointing the onscreen cursor around to the game's objects to inspect them.

The puzzles are greatly considered to be challenging, and the "kiddy" like appearance may throw people off, a topic which has been brought up by multiple critics, mainly consisting of IGN.

Wiki has an appearance of a Lion cub, and can be transformed into a bell by shaking the Wii's remote. Oftentimes shaking the Wii's remote will cause on screen, unusable items to transform into usable ones. Even enemies such as snakes and boars can be transformed into items, though oftentimes the enemies in question will be enraged, thus won't be able to transform.

Wii Remote Movements[]

The game includes multiple different movements that can be performed via the Wii remote. The most common tasks include clicking, dragging, moving, grabbing and pulling, though that is not nearly all of the actions that can be executed. Others include yanking the Wii remote downwards, shaking it (thus turning your pall Wiki into a bell), sawing, rotating, twisting, cranking flipping, dropping, lifting, and so on.

Reception[]

The game was well received among all critics. Months before the game was released, IGN had a campaign asking gamers to go out an purchase the game when it was released. This is the second time in their website's history that they've done something like this, the first being Perfect Dark for the GameCube.
